Mahdoton kaupunki / A Strange place

A strange Place tells story about a city where memories, the need for rest and longing for somewhere else are confusing reality. Installation consists of sound art, text and photos on canvas.

In the collection of texts, A Strange Place,  the scenery of the hometown should be familiar, but the map in our minds doesn't follow real streets and buildings. The city has been changing its form and reality and has not made it easy to feel at home.

The sound installation is from December 2019. The winter, which has not been really a winter in southern Finland, had melted the ice in the sea, and small pieces of ice were clattering silently against each other next to our summer gottage's neighbour's pier. A motor boat drove past, then another.

The photos in the exhibition are mostly from the series Still (quiet) life 2013-. The photos of the series are from the time I lived in Russia, in the small village of Panozero. I captured moments where  the natural light silently showed unplanned compositions of objects and time seemed to strangely slow down.
